Pick your situation

Built from official IRS figures. Brackets, the standard deduction, AMT exemptions and capital-gain thresholds come from Rev. Proc. 2025-32; withholding rates from Publication 15; section 1202 tiers from 26 U.S.C. 1202 as amended by Pub. L. 119-21. The arithmetic is our own, and state tax is whatever rate you enter. See the methodology page.

Federal brackets used by every calculator

These are the 2026 ordinary income brackets for single filers and married filing jointly. The calculators also support married filing separately and head of household.

Why a dedicated calculator matters

Equity pay breaks the assumptions of a normal paycheck calculator. RSUs are withheld at a flat 22% regardless of your bracket, so a $60,000 vest for someone in the 35% bracket leaves about $7,800 to settle in April. ISOs create no regular tax at exercise but can trigger AMT on a gain you have not realized. NSOs generate two different tax events on the same share: ordinary income at exercise and capital gain at sale. And section 1202 stock now has three exclusion tiers that depend on how long you hold it after a specific 2025 date.

Each calculator isolates one of those mechanics, shows the intermediate rows (marginal rate, withholding, basis, exclusion cap) instead of a single opaque figure, and states which tax year and which IRS publication it follows. If you are not sure which one applies, the overview of equity compensation tax maps each situation to its calculator.

Common questions

Are these calculators free?

Yes. No account, no email, and nothing is transmitted; the math runs in your browser.

Do they include state tax?

State rules vary too much to model reliably, so each tool takes an optional flat state rate you can pull from your state's schedule. Federal tax is exact; state tax is the rate you enter.

Which tax year is used?

Tax year 2026 throughout: Rev. Proc. 2025-32 brackets, a $16,100 standard deduction for single filers, a $90,100 AMT exemption, and 26%/28% AMT rates with the $244,500 threshold.
